Job Title: Distribution Engineer
Job Description
This position involves working on a 6-month contract-to-direct basis, focusing on connecting new homes and commercial businesses to the energy grid or upgrading existing connections to the distribution grids. The role requires individuals to conduct their own field work, creating work packages, and completing electrical analysis to decide material needs. The position is flexible with field work, allowing for remote work when not on-site.
Responsibilities
Conduct field inspections to gather necessary information such as notes, pictures, measurements, and sketches.
Develop electrical drawings and perform electrical analysis to determine material requirements for site connections.
Complete engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, cable pulling, transformer sizing, and voltage drop.
Create Build of Materials (BOM) using SAP software based on material selection.
Collaborate with utility companies' field installation teams using the developed electrical work packages.
Interact daily with supervisors, peers, and customers to exchange factual information.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or Associate's degree with relevant experience.
0-2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree.
1-3 years of relevant experience with an Associate's degree.
Experience working directly with electric utility companies or electric engineering consulting firms.
Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Microstation.
Valid driver's license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, and Microstation.
Fundamentals of Engineer certification.
Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal.
Collaborative and inclusive attitude.
Professional dress and demeanor.
Work Environment
The work environment includes field inspections and remote work possibilities. Field inspections require the ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces. Candidates must provide their own reliable transportation and reside near Kalamazoo, MI. Typical work distribution includes 10%-20% field inspections, 60%-80% engineering and development of design packages, and 10% administrative tasks and customer follow-up. Professional dress and demeanor are expected.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
