GENERAL SUMMARY:
Manages laboratory operations of the Molecular Pathology and Genomic Medicine laboratories across multiple locations of Henry Ford Health. Ensures accrediting, regulatory, and customer service standards are met. Responsible for human resources, budget planning, supply chain, and information technology.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general direction from medical and administrative Directors, manages laboratory operations of the Molecular and Cytogenetics laboratories, including Fluorescent In-situ Hybridization (FISH), Chromosome Analysis, MicroArray, and Next-Gen Sequencing (Clinical Exome, Solid Tumor, Constitutional Studies) to meet the needs of customers across the system for both internal and external referral customers. Provides leadership to maintain focus on service standards, turnaround time, and quality.
Recruits, orients, and evaluates, staff including, technical staff and support staff. Ensures systems are in place and action is taken to assess competency, performance, provide training, coaching and development of talent, and corrective action as needed.
Prepares capital and operating budgets and monitors current period budgets to evaluate and reports variances for remediation and communication of changes.
Oversees quality management, quality control, and customer service practices to meet accrediting and regulatory requirements and to further objectives of HFHS. Follows-up on customer service issues in a timely manner.
Plans and attends meetings to coordinate operations, improve quality, and plan services as needed. As a leader demonstrates the ability to anticipate customer needs and technical requirements.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Completion of an accredited bachelor's degree program in a chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology, or clinical laboratory science.
Requires five years' experience with progressive responsibility in a clinical diagnostic testing environment including experience with laboratory accreditation standards
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
Working knowledge of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), CAP (College of American Pathologists) and relevant state regulations.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
- Certification as a MB (ASCP), CG (ASCP), MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA) MLS (ASCP) or categorical required
EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION DESIRED:
- Training and experience using Lean tools and workflow design preferred
