Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) is looking for an enthusiastic Adjunct Instructor to teach Radiologic Technology courses. The candidate should have a passion for teaching and be dedicated to helping students succeed, providing a positive learning experience. The need for adjunct faculty is assessed each semester, and classes occur Monday through Saturday based on the academic calendar.
The instructor's responsibilities include teaching specific courses like Radiographic Exposure and Clinical Experience Oversight, following the syllabus and required textbooks, attending classes as scheduled, and clearly stating course outcomes. They must create a supportive classroom environment, keep accurate student records, and report grades on time. Additionally, they should accommodate students’ needs according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and follow privacy regulations under FERPA. Instructors should respond to communications promptly and provide easy access to course information.
Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Education or a health-related field, while a Bachelor's Degree is a minimum requirement. Candidates must also have current ARRT registration in Radiography and preferred certifications in CT, MRI, Mammography, or Interventional Radiography. Applicants should have at least two years of recent experience in Radiologic Technology within a hospital and preferably two years of teaching experience at a post-secondary level.
The role demands strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with a diverse student body and faculty. Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems is also required. Physically, the instructor must be capable of standing or sitting for long periods, moving patients, and lifting heavy equipment. They should also have the ability to hear faint sounds, see detail in X-ray films, and perform precise tasks that require dexterity. Good written and oral communication skills are necessary.
Mentally, the candidate should understand and appreciate the community college philosophy and enjoy working with a diverse group of students. They should be committed to serving the local community, exhibit initiative and problem-solving skills, and be willing to learn about college systems. The position requires a high energy level and the capacity to handle pressure and make decisions quickly.
Working conditions include teaching in a classroom and lab settings, traveling to various clinical sites, and complying with health and safety requirements. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, is also expected.
