We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate team member to help deliver high-quality food service that supports the health and well-being of our residents. In this role, you will ensure all meals meet the nutritional needs of each individual, following the recommended dietary guidelines established by the Food and Nutritional Board of the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences—adjusted for age, gender, activity level, and departmental standards. You will also collaborate with licensed health care professionals to honor any physician-directed dietary orders.

What you will do:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the direct supervision of the Kitchen Manager and Manager, the Cook
of Hearthside Assisted Living will:
- Be responsible for the overall operations of the kitchen area on their shift.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations. (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
- Wear proper head gear and gloves when working in the kitchen.
- Ensure that all foods are consistently prepared, portioned and served to meet dietary and facility guidelines. Check and maintain all food/drink temperatures before serving each meal.
- Meal census must be completed for every meal.
- Washing dishes from all meals and snacks.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work station area including grills, convection oven, range and refrigeration equipment.
- Serves beverages for meals and snacks.
- Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition
through personal inspection, report to the Kitchen Manager or Manager any
items needing maintenance or attention.
- Complete all assigned cleaning tasks and follow the attached break down of job duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Manager.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to bend, squat and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Must be free from all communicable diseases.
- Must have a compassionate and caring demeanor along with a calm, comfortable approach with the senior population.
- Must have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Must be a team player and have a positive attitude.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written format with co-workers, residents, families, visitors, volunteers and community members.
- Must have a work history providing dependability and punctuality.
- Must be detailed oriented and be able to multi-task.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to work under the direction and policies of SHSS.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Preference given to those with 1 year kitchen experience and in the preparing of food appropriate to the elderly.
- Preference given to candidates who have experience in long term care facilities such as foster care, assisted living homes, nursing home, hospitals.
- Preference given to those candidates with knowledge of Hospice, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, mental illness, and other disabilities.
