Description
Under general supervision, to have charge of, and to exercise responsibility for the general business operations and/or related non-technical operations of a major department division, including the direction of an office workforce.
Examples of Duties
Directs office and clerical activities for department function to which assigned through reports, discussions with subordinate supervisors, and other managerial controls.
Adjusts friction between sections and units and resolves personnel and supply problems.
Ensures establishment of procedures and employee responsibilities.
Initiates and develops working plans and procedures to meet changing requirements caused by changes in law or other factors.
Maintains a check on business operations through a review of daily activity and special reports.
Keeps management informed at all times as to the status of finances, records and other pertinent matters.
Handles complaints of an administrative nature.
Collects data and compiles annual budgets.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with specialization in business or public administration or in a field closely related to the major activity of the employing department.
Four years of experience in business or public administration, including two years in a supervisory capacity coordinating administrative activities, preferable in the employing department.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
