Nexteer Automotive is looking for a Resident Technician with a diverse skill set who enjoys developing & integrating EPS (Electric Power Steering) and SbW (Steer by Wire) systems in customer vehicles. The Resident Technician will work cross functionally with multiple internal and external teams (i.e. software, requirements, mechanical, validation) to successfully take a product from concept to production. The ideal candidate would enjoy working with the customer daily, reviewing and implementing requirements for algorithm development, performing vehicle evaluations, and coordinate troubleshooting tasks for complex electromechanical systems.
Integral contributor to a team of highly motivated engineers in the development of electrical controller modules for advanced steering systems
Participate in customer Electrical Product Development Team meetings weekly and follow up on open action items proactively
Perform vehicle driving evaluations for steering feel, response, noise, and stability
Support system HiL bench activities and testing in Milford and, when applicable, in Saginaw
Maintain records of work performed, analyzes data collected, and reports results professionally
Support customer bench-level updates and customer evaluations on new features and software content
Support proving ground, fleet, and plant start up activities including data collection and controller reflash
Work with customer and Nexteer System/Electrical Application team (in Saginaw, MI) on timing and delivery of software and hardware
Contribute to problem solving activities regarding complex hardware / software design challenges
Support flexible work environment, ability to travel as required for Customer and Nexteer Plant support
Interface with the Customer, as the Representative of Nexteer, through easy and difficult discussions in a professional manner
Must be able to drive a vehicle and possess a valid driver license
Serve as liaison to GM, requires 3-5 days per week in Milford, MI
Qualifications
Educational focus in design/development of electrical and electronics systems in hardware and/or software
Excellent problem-solving skills
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
Willingness to learn new customer software applications with attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Hands-on skill set for adapting to Customers' Systems/Tools i.e.: Engineering Change System, Parts Release System, Engineering Document Vault Security, Vehicle Spy, Vector Hardware/Software
Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN) preferred
Familiarity with basic tools that apply to CAN networks preferred
Functional understanding of microprocessors and "C" programming language preferred
Good oral and written communication skills
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design
Diagnose and correct deficiencies
Chauffeur Driver's License preferred
