Description
ASales Manager for Steel processingis responsible for driving revenue growth, developing sales strategies, and managing client relationships within the steel industry. The role involves a deep understanding of steel products, processing and market dynamics, requiring collaboration with production and logistics teams to meet customer demands.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute strategic sales plansto achieve sales targets and expand the customer base within the steel processing market.
Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationshipswith key clients, contractors, and distributors to foster loyalty and secure new business opportunities.
Manage the entire sales cycle, from lead generation and prospecting (including cold calling) to negotiating contracts and closing deals.
Analyze market trendsand competitor activity to identify new opportunities, assess competitive activity, and adjust sales strategies as needed.
Collaborate with internal teamssuch as production, estimating, logistics, and quality assurance to ensure product specifications are met, resolve issues, and ensure timely delivery.
Prepare and present sales forecasts, performance reports, and quotesto senior management, ensuring accurate pricing and managing profitability.
Travel regularlywithin the assigned responsibilities and markets to meet existing and prospective customers and attend industry events or trade shows.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience in sales management, preferably within the steel manufacturing, fabrication, or service center industry.
Strong knowledge of various steel products (e.g., flat rolled steel and aluminum) and the associated processing and production methods.
Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret sales data and market conditions.
Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and Microsoft Office Suite.
A bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, engineering, or a related field is often preferred, but industry experience is highly valued.
Ability to work independently as a self-starter and manage multiple projects effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following:
Develop sales plans and strategies to increase market penetration within region.
Direct the price management process which includes value selling, implementation of increases, rebate programs, and profitability by customer, package, and spec strength strategies.
Participate in annual sales strategy planning
Generate quotations to identified strategic key accounts monthly
Write, translate and understand technical specifications for proper valve selection and optimization.
Listen to the VOC and recommend process and/or product changes to increase spec share and sales
Communicate with the VP Sales to ensure customer commitments and opportunities are captured. Report the value and status of major outstanding quotations. Track projects that are won and lost and analyze the reasons to improve the winning percentage.
Negotiate large project pricing and terms.
Direct and participate in customer appreciation programs
Provide representation within national industry organizations.
Provide Blanking and Slitting quote support for all inquiries
Coordinate Commercial Quote Strategy and respond to legitimate RFQs
Assist in maintaining "Master Pricing Matrix" for steel and aluminum parts
Work VP Sales on quote assumptions and quote response
Commercial Quote Follow-up - Request feedback from customers on submitted quotes Learn and adapt both current and new market conditions
Assist in managing interaction / business strategy / quoting / collections with Steel Mills and/or select processors
Assess and quote "Spot Market" processing opportunities if commercially favorable to Delaco (and within our capabilities).
Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent from a college Engineering, Sales, or Business, or a minimum of 5 years related experience in technical sales and calling on a distribution network or working directly for a distributor.
Skills/Experience
Demonstrate a high level of energy, drive, enthusiasm, initiative, commitments and professionalism.
Experience in calling on and reviewing applications with process engineers, mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, maintenance engineers, and planners.
Strong relationship building skills
Excellent time management, communication, Customer services, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in reading and interpreting Customer specifications.
Technical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing processes
Excellent people, communication (written and verbal), negotiation and facilitation skills.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
Superior interpersonal, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, with acute attention to detail
Proficient with Windows, MS Office, and CRM systems
Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
Ability to adapt to unfamiliar processes and situations with minimal review/supervision.
Travel
Employee must be able to travel 50% of the time.
