A General Laborer in well drilling supports driller operators by handling physical, on-site tasks, including setting up/breaking down rigs, loading/unloading equipment, mixing drilling mud, and installing well casing. They ensure safety compliance, maintain tools, and assist with site maintenance, often working outdoors in varying, strenuous conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Prep & Support: Set up, tear down, and clean up drilling rigs, tools, and pipes at job sites.
- Equipment Operation: Assist in operating and maintaining drill rigs, pumps, and drilling fluid/mud systems.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and manage heavy materials like well casing, screens, and drilling rods.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on vehicles, machinery, and tools, such as cleaning, greasing, and repairing equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow OSHA regulations, attend safety meetings, wear proper PPE, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Site Assistance: Manually dig pits, clear debris, and assist the driller with connecting/disconnecting drill pipes.
Physical Requirements & Qualifications
- Stamina & Strength: Capability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment (frequently 50-100 lbs) throughout long shifts.
- Working Conditions: Ability to work outside in extreme weather (heat, cold, rain).
- Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude; knowledge of tools is preferred.
- Driver's License: Valid driver’s license, with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
