Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team
and provides strategic financial oversight for the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan.
Reporting directly to the President, the CFO is responsible for guiding the organization’s
financial strategy, ensuring fiscal sustainability, and supporting long-term growth. This role is
ideal for a forward-thinking financial leader who can balance strong financial controls with
strategic vision as the organization expands its programs, funding, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Executive & Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the President and Board of Directors on financial
planning, risk management, and organizational growth.
- Lead long-term financial strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic
plan.
- Develop financial scenarios and models to support expansion, new initiatives, and
diversified revenue streams.
- Partner with leadership to assess financial implications of programmatic and operational
decisions.
Financial Management & Oversight
- Oversee all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial statements for leadership, the Board, and external
stakeholders.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with all regulatory and reporting
requirements.
- Lead annual audits and oversee relationships with external auditors and financial
advisors.
Grants, Contracts & Revenue Support
- Provide executive oversight of grant and contract financial management and
compliance.
- Support leadership and program teams in financial aspects of grant proposals, budgets,
and reporting.
- Monitor financial performance across programs and funding sources.
Systems, Policies & Infrastructure
- Strengthen financial systems, policies, and procedures to support organizational scale
and complexity.
- Oversee financial technology, reporting tools, and process improvements.
- Ensure financial infrastructure supports transparency, accountability, and growth.
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
- Mentor staff and support professional development within the finance function.
- Communicate financial performance and strategy clearly to the Board, funders, and key
stakeholders.
- Represent the organization externally on financial matters as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
required; MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of senior financial leadership experience, preferably in a
nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated experience supporting organizational growth and financial strategy.
- Strong background in nonprofit finance, audits, grant compliance, and board reporting.
- Proven ability to translate complex financial information into clear strategic insights.
- High ethical standards, strong judgment, and commitment to equity and inclusion.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, onsite position with a Monday to Friday schedule. The Chief Financial Officer
may be required to attend evening and weekend events to support the HCWM team and
perform other duties as assigned.
