TOEFL instructor requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (often in English or education),
TESOL/TEFL/CELTA certification, and advanced English proficiency. Specialized training in
TOEFL strategies and 1–2 years of teaching experience are highly preferred. Key skills include understanding the exam format, strong grammatical knowledge, and the ability to teach academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum), ideally in English, linguistics, or education.
- Certification: General TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification (120+ hours).
- Specialized Training: Specialized TOEFL preparation training (e.g., TOEFL-specific certifications).
- Language Proficiency: Native or near-native English fluency (C1/C2 level).
- Experience: Previous experience teaching English as a second language (ESL) is often required.
