Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machine to join different parts of material together to form subcomponents or finished products according to specifications and instructions.
- Perform finishing operations including trimming threads and edges of parts.
- Maintain a level of efficiency set by production standards.
- Keep track of production and material used.
- Report all scrap, rework and repair.
- Perform preventive maintenance as directed by maintenance.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Monitor the quality of the work to make sure the product meets customer expectations.
- Notify appropriate personnel immediately of any problems.
- Follow proper safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Individuals need to sit for a prolonged period of time and stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day.
- Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required.
- Occasional lifting or moving heavy materials in difficult work positions. May include lifting up to 70 pounds.
- May require some physical exertion.
- The performance of this position requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields.
- Must meet production shift, Mon-Thurs 530am – 330pm
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Requires a level of educational development equivalent to that normally acquired through high school.
- Six months of previous sewing experience preferred but will train the right candidate.
- One to two years of experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
- Ability to layout and handle large fabric panels.
- Ability to read tape measures and rulers to a 16th of an inch
- Ability to read, understand and follow basic processes and assembly instructions.
- Ability to see fine details such as needle holes with or without corrective lenses.
- Excellent hand / eye coordination is required and basic sewing knowledge is preferred.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work effectively with a wide range of people throughout the organization.
- Judgment, initiative and creativity are expected.
- Able to firmly grasp material.
- Great attention to detail.
- Ability to distinguish colors with or without assistance.
Education, Training and Experience
- Prior sewing experience preferred but training will be provided
