Description
The Middle School Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and managing a middle school football team in a manner that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, safety, and alignment with the high school football program. This position plays a key role in vertically aligning middle school football with the program's overall philosophy while providing a positive and developmentally appropriate experience for all student-athletes. Reports directly to the Director of Coaching and the EGR Parks & Recreation Supervisor
Essential Job Functions
Serve as the primary point of contact for all football-related communication with parents and guardians.
Plan, organize, and conduct all football practices, games, and team activities.
Teach fundamental football skills, rules, and techniques appropriate for middle school athletes.
Ensure compliance with all league rules, policies, and safety guidelines specific to middle school football.
Complete all required health and safety trainings prior to the start of the season.
Develop and submit a football-specific Emergency Action Plan (EAP) prior to the first practice.
Submit offensive, defensive, and special teams lineups, along with a playing time plan, to the Director of Coaching.
Follow the approved playing time plan in accordance with league rules and the philosophy of the head high school football coach.
Collaborate with the other middle school head football coach to coordinate joint practices and shared skill development when appropriate.
Work with the Director of Coaching and Parks & Recreation staff to arrange game filming and ensure game footage is uploaded to Hudl.
Supervise assistant football coaches and ensure their instruction, conduct, and sideline behavior align with program expectations.
Maintain appropriate sideline behavior, professional language, and sportsmanship during all practices and games.
Ensure proper attire and use of required protective equipment for all practices and games.
Participate in pre-season and in-season meetings with the Director of Coaching, Parks & Recreation staff, and the head varsity football coach.
Represent the football program in a professional and positive manner at all times.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
Manage conflict professionally with players, parents, officials, and opposing coaches.
Commit fully to the entire middle school football season, including practices, games, and meetings.
Conduct organized, efficient practices focused on fundamentals, player safety, and age-appropriate development.
Teach proper tackling, blocking, and contact techniques consistent with current safety standards.
Act as a positive adult role model, mentor, and leader for middle school student-athletes.
Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of football rules, strategies, and regulations.
Prior football playing and/or coaching experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.
The employee may occasionally lift or move football equipment of light to moderate weight.
The employee will regularly work outdoors on football fields and athletic facilities and may be required to engage in moderate physical activity, including setting up equipment and participating in drills.
Outdoor work occurs in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold, and on uneven playing surfaces.
The position requires sufficient strength, stamina, and physical coordination to actively demonstrate football techniques and ensure player safety.
Noise levels during practices and games may be moderate to loud.
