Geotab is seeking a Senior Software Developer who will create web-based applications in JavaScript, C# and SQL to create fast and responsive user interfaces. This position develops tools for analysis, such as iPython scripts to make sense of production data. Understanding the performance impact of designs, threading, good UI design, and scalability is a must for this position. What you'll do:
As a Senior Software Developer, your key area of responsibility will be creating web-based applications in JavaScript, C# and SQL, and developing tools for analysis to make sense of production data. You will need to work closely with more junior team members, providing guidance and sharing knowledge across the teams. To be successful in this role you will be a strong team player with an entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable in a flat organization, and have high accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. How you'll make an impact:
Listen and contribute to design discussions and make detailed notes and documenting requirements and technical design.
Provide guidance to more junior team members, sharing knowledge across the teams.
Write scalable, high quality and secure software in a variety of programming languages and environments, such as C#, JavaScript, SQL.
Perform quality assurance by doing peer review, ensuring coding standards are followed, looking for logic errors and other bugs.
Analyze call stacks, trace files, performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and proofs of concept.
Provide assistance to our support staff and resellers from a technical perspective.
Research new language features, frameworks and other relevant technologies and offer recommendations to Leads and senior leaders.
Assist in defining best practices to be used in the team.
Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule (if applicable)
What you'll bring to the role:
5 - 8 years of experience as a Software Developer using object-oriented programming to build scalable applications.
Post-secondary Diploma/Degree specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with Python, Google Compute Engine, Google BigQuery, and SQL Server/Postgres database design.
Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes is required.
Knowledge of multiple general purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python) and proficiency in Git.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve and manage projects through to completion.
Technical competence using software programs, including Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides)
