Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), with proof of continuing education to maintain certification and enhance professional expertise
- Current State of Michigan SLP Licensure
- Willing to consider Clinical Fellowship Year experience with State of Michigan Educational Limited License required
- Prefer individuals with 1-3 years clinical/medical experience
- CPR certified/capability to be certified
Summary
- Diagnose speech, swallowing, language, and cognitive deficits, selecting from a wide battery of tests that are appropriate for the patient and provide a differential diagnosis of disorders
- Gather medical history of the patient from a variety of sources and write diagnostic reports stating professional opinion for diagnosis, recommendations, and plan of care
- Design therapy program and establish realistic functional goals
- Provide therapy concentrating on compensation strategies for injury, training in the use of non-verbal communication systems, or retraining to gain lost skills
- Document patient's status in the medical record, meeting insurance and documentation requirements
- Educate patient and significant others regarding the identified speech, language, swallowing, or cognitive disorder, and effects upon patient function
- Schedule appointments for optimal productivity and revenue production
- Develop appropriate home programs for patients or assist coordination of care in programming elsewhere
- Interaction with appropriate internal and external parties or any other professionals involved in ongoing patient care
- Provide in-service education to HSS staff and department staff as appropriate
- Serve as representative for SLP Department on various committees
- Participate in special projects to enhance professional growth
- Respond accordingly to various internal Codes and Drills
- Follow organizational work rules and personnel policies
- Other duties as assigned
