Responsible for providing minimally invasive, image-guided diagnosis and treatment of diseases using CT and other imaging modalities; utilize theoretical knowledge of medical radiation physics and biology principles to support Henry Ford Radiologists in the performance of minimally invasive radiologic procedures to aid in the evaluation and treatment of patient diseases; support staffing and rotation scheduling; oversee supply inventory and ordering activities; facilitate new hire orientations; support daily workflow and patient throughput; demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills with respect to care coordination across the healthcare continuum; coordinate the protocol database on the Henry Ford Radlinks application; ensure standardized imaging procedures are in place across the system; address patient experience concerns, as well as coach and mentor radiology personnel;in consultation with Radiologists, determine the appropriate imaging techniques and patient positioning to obtain the best possible images for diagnostic and/or treatment purposes and ensure safety practices for limiting patient radiation exposure; prepare patients for radiologic procedures by obtaining and reviewing all relevant information regarding the patient's medical history and anatomical structures necessary to correctly perform the procedures; answer patient questions about radiation exposure during procedures; prepare the prescribed contrast median, medications and IV solutions being administered to patients at the direction of the Radiologist; prepare the radiologic equipment needed for various types of radiologic procedure requested by the supervising Radiologist, including physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and radiation imaging equipment; ensure that all technical settings for the equipment are appropriate to obtain the most precise images of specific anatomical structures with the lowest amount of radiation exposure; operate and control the radiologic equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied; perform all radiologic imaging procedures; ensure that radiation safety procedures are followed including shielding patients, selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dosage, and using other ALARA techniques; suggest alternative strategies for obtaining the correct images based on theoretical knowledge of radiation physics and anatomy; resolve all image exceptions and ensure high quality image delivery into Henry Ford's Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), including viewing images into PACS and confirming image/series counts; assist with maintenance and improvement efforts in connection with the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of radiologic procedures and equipment by implementing the radiologic best practices; coordinate departmental equipment preventative maintenance schedules; resolve departmental PACS imaging exceptions, resolve department billing exceptions, and assist in scheduling time-sensitive studies that enable patient therapies/treatments/procedures into departmental workflows;maintain accreditation through the American College of Radiology on all CT units of service; ensure departmental compliance with all state and regulatory requirements; monitor image quality reports and implement adjustments when necessary;utilize and apply knowledge of pharmacology, cross sectional anatomy, radiation physics, radiographic quality and exposure, radiation biology, anatomical principles, human physiology, radiation safety protocols, patient care assessments, and peripheral intravenous access to perform assigned duties; provide support with venipuncture/IV start procedures; and assist in the specification, selection, acceptance testing, commissioning, quality assurance/control and optimized clinical use of radiologic imaging devices.
