JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview:
Position is for a CAD designer / design engineer to provide 3D CAD modeling and design support to product engineers at the Technical Center in Plymouth, MI. Responsible for leading CAD modeling activity and designing and packaging seat structures, mechanisms, and complete seat systems.
Responsibilities:
Work with engineering to capture the product design intent related to fit, form and function
Work with various CAD, PLM and related applications (Catia, NX, PLM, Visualization tools, etc.)
Work with various product types related to automotive seating (sheet metal, tubing, injection molded plastics, PU foam, etc.)
Develop and manage 3D CAD models for parts
Develop parts in accordance with part design BBPs
Validate part design against legal, engineering and manufacturing requirements (draft angles, bend radii, etc.)
Design solutions to solve complex packaging, layout, or kinematic issues that meet manufacturability requirements, cost targets, and performance requirements
Develop and manage 3D CAD models for Assemblies
Develop assemblies and the corresponding skeletons in accordance with assembly design BBPs
Validate assembly design against legal, engineering and manufacturing requirements
Perform kinematic studies and clash analysis
Develop and manage 2D drawings for parts and assemblies
Develop 2D drawings in accordance with drafting standards
Apply engineering specifications (GD&T, Notes, etc.) to 2D drawings
Create Complete Seat drawings for PPAP
Master sections / layouts for vehicle interface and packaging
Ensure proper communication for engineering specification through sections & detail views
Manage CAD data related items in PLM
Ensure proper naming and classification for various PLM items
Manage part, assembly & drawing versions & revision
Ensure proper link between various PLM items
Provide CAD support to quickly identify and resolve product issues at the manufacturing plant and/or support for customer reviews.
Support development of CAD standards and best practices and ensure consistent CAD methods and standards deployed to all members of assigned department / training of department design engineers
Qualifications:
Expert in CAD software - preferably in CATIA V5 or NX
Able to effectively communicate and interface with different team members
Experience in manufacturing process, quality systems, and product interactions and willingness to learn about seat manufacturing and key criteria.
Mechanical aptitude for hands-on problem-solving using tools such as KT, A3, FTA, 8D.
Ability to use Adient-specific software (PLM, Teamcenter).
Understanding of GD&T and ability to read drawings.
Experience Required
10+ years in automotive engineering with design experience in complex systems with sub-systems/ components. Automotive Seating design experience is strongly preferable
Associate Degree in applied engineering, mechanical design or similar is preferred
Working in office minimum of 3 days/week
Evidence of mechanical aptitude or similar hands-on experience a strong plus
Candidate must be willing to take a CAD proficiency test
