Technical Specialist - Controls/Electrification

MTI is looking for a motivated engineer to join our team. We are specifically looking for an individual to provide technical, program, and account management expertise to cross-functional business development and engineering program team execution activities. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 7+ years experience in a relevant position. 7

Engineering Program Team Roles:
The cross-functional program execution team executes a wide variety of vehicle and mobility system simulation, design, and development projects. The Tech Specialist - Controls/Electrification role is responsible for the technical delivery of the controls/electrification portion of the project.
Detailed responsibilities include: Functional Requirements definition for electrification components (e.g. battery, electric motor, inverter, voltage converter, system controls, ...) and overall system performance, reliability, serviceability, and cost. Functional development, integration & optimization of the powertrain software & control systems into the overall system platform.
The specific roles of a Technical Specialist in this effort include:
Defines, plans, leads, and performs System Component Development, Controls Software Development, System Integration, and System Verification & Validation activity and other relevant engineering project work within project team as required.
Plans and manages engineering program resources according to project requirements.
Mentors less experienced Engineers in the field of Controls and Electrification.
Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, development of electrified systems/components, technical plans, powertrain system and component testing, data analysis and validation.
Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports.
Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
Defines, executes, and supports research and development activities.
Supports, organizes, and leads customer meetings.
Identifies and supports business and strategic company development activities.

Business Development Team Roles:
The business development team executes a wide variety of activities to develop new commercial opportunities. The Tech Specialist - Controls/Electrification role is responsible for supporting these activities as needed. Detailed responsibilities include: identification of and assessment of relevant emerging technologies and products, supporting the planning of resources to prepare for estimated future needs of the organization, development, and support of new and existing key customer relationships.
The specific roles of a Technical Specialist in this effort include:
Defines, executes, and supports system performance and research and development activities.
Supports, organizes, and leads customer meetings.
Identifies and supports business and strategic company development activities.
Proposal generation, review, and approval.
Qualifications/Skills:
Experience and Education
- Bachelors' degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or related field
Masters' degree preferred
PhD degree in Engineering desired
Minimum of 7+ years' experience in area of expertise
A Technical Specialist is expected to have demonstrated performance abilities in the following areas:
Commercial
Quote Leader for a large client program
Support and lead as required the Business Development process for specific clients
Efficient on time delivery of customer program expectations with consistently high feedback
Technical
Deep understanding of electrification principles/system development; power electronics (inverter, DCDC, etc), emachine, low voltage/high voltage battery systems (including BMS)
Strong experience in controls development in an automotive, or similar industry
Matlab/Simulink, C, Python, etc
Strong experience in electrical circuit design, ideally HV/power electronics development
Experience and willingness to support hands on development, testing and integration of systems in various development domains; laboratory, test cell, vehicle
Identify, initiate, and support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and re-use.
Provide effective developmental leadership for other departmental staff in areas of expertise
Published at least 3 papers accepted by a professional organization or 3 patents awarded
Expertise in regulatory and market segment requirements and end-user expectations
Functionality in all and recognized expert in at least one of the following areas:
