Job Summary:
As a Surgical Technician, you use your knowledge of anatomy, patient needs and departmental procedures to prepare for and manage surgical cases at ProMedica.
You will ensure sterile field integrity by using aseptic techniques and addressing any breaks in sterile technique quickly.
Teamwork is key in this role as you work with the circulating nurse to keep an accurate count of sponges, instruments, and sharps in accordance with department guidelines.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of thepatients/clients served (i.e.: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
Assists the surgical team during operative procedures. Opens sterile supplies and sets up forprocedures.
Prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restockssupplies.
Drapes patients for procedures, assists with case as directed by physician.
Knowledgeable in surgical cases for all services provided.
Shares knowledge of scrubbing to educate / mentor peers and new orientees.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of approved surgical technician program or licensed as LPN in the State of Michigan.
License: Current, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure from the state of employment if hiring into the LPN capacity.
Certification: BCLS and Surgical Technologist (CST) certification if not an LPN. Must have Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within six (6) months of hire.
