A Carter Lumber Assistant Mechanic supports the daily repairs, emergency fixes, and preventative maintenance of trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment. This role assists in diagnosing equipment issues and performing repairs under the guidance of senior mechanics, ensuring all vehicles remain DOT compliant. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Requirements:

• 3+ years post qualification experience

• Working knowledge of heavy diesel engine maintenance and repair

• Ability to assist with diagnostics and troubleshooting under supervision

• Strong time management and attention to detail

• Clear verbal communication and solid organizational skills

• Dependable team player with a positive attitude

• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively

Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Assist in maintaining and repairing trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment

• Support diagnosis of mechanical issues and help ensure timely, cost-effective repairs

• Help prioritize tasks and projects based on urgency and importance

• Document maintenance activities and inspections accurately

Safety

• Follow all safety protocols when using tools and equipment

• Help verify that safety functions on equipment are operational

• Handle materials safely and appropriately

• Report defects or safety concerns immediately

• Complete all required safety training
