Laboratory Technician – Water Treatment

Trillium Staffing is hiring a Laboratory Technician to provide standardized laboratory work involved in the operation of the water treatment facility.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Job Type: Temp-to-hire opportunity
Responsibilities:

Maintain E.P.A. and E.G.L.E.-mandated programs for sampling, testing, and reporting on the drinking water distribution system for bacteriological and disinfectant content

Recommend treatment changes based on test results in the absence of senior lab staff

Perform bacteriological testing on process water in conjunction with the Plant Biologist
-
Keep accurate records of all tests, including those for contractors and private well owners
-
Prepare reagents for bacteriological and limited chemical analyses
-
Calibrate and check laboratory instruments
-
Assist with Lead and Copper Rule sampling
-
Maintain cleanliness of lab and equipment
-
Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment
-
Request supplies and submit repair requests as needed
-
Maintain Saginaw River sampling and testing programs
-
Perform limited duties of Chief Chemist, Chemist, and Biologist as needed

Keep operating lab stocked with prepared reagents
-
Assist in water treatment plant operations as necessary
-
Respond to public inquiries regarding water quality

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Chemist and Superintendent
Requirements:

Associate degree with coursework in chemistry (equivalent to two years of college); Bachelor’s degree preferred
-
Must obtain State of Michigan F-4 Operator Certification within four test cycles of hire
-
Experience in laboratory work involving Wet Chemistry and Microbiology
-
Ability to exercise independent judgment and demonstrate leadership skills

Professional conduct when working with the public or in the field
-
Valid Michigan Driver’s License required
