DHC MI Holdings LLC d/b/a Grand Hotel, Bicycle Street Inn, and Mackinac Island Bike Shop, located in Mackinac Island, MI, seeks fourteen (14) full-time, temporary Front Desk Agents who will be responsible for operating telephones in a polite and friendly manner following proper telephone etiquette, answering the phones and directing calls appropriately, greeting members and guests, and assisting with reservations and luggage, as follows: Upon guests' arrival, the Front Desk Agents will collect luggage claim checks that were given to guests by the ferry company. The Front Desk Agents will then take the luggage tags, attach it to a Service Desk tag, and write the guest's name, guest room number, and the employee's initials on the tag. The Front Desk Agent will inform the guests that their luggage may take up to three (3) hours to arrive at their room. The Front Desk Agent will then place the incoming luggage tags at the Front Desk where the tags are then retrieved and taken to the Service Desk to be processed by the bellhop team. Front Desk Agents will also answer guest questions regarding luggage transport, such as the timeline of the luggage arrival to the guests' room, and will issue cards to guests with the departure information for luggage. If additional information is needed on luggage, the Front Desk Agent will provide directions to the Service Desk where the guest can inquire on their own. Front Desk Agents do not physically handle the luggage. Front Desk Agents will also be responsible for distributing hotel information and schedules, collecting and sorting the mail on a daily basis, contacting housekeeping or maintenance staff when guests report problems, checking guests in and out of guest rooms, issuing room keys and escort instructions to bellhops, posting charges, such as those for rooms, food, liquor, or telephone calls, to ledgers manually or by using computers, keeping records of room availability and guests' accounts, manually or using computers, recording guest comments or complaints, reconciling, investigating, and resolving all guest accounts, including verifying the accuracy of the accounts and balancing charges and revenues, and conducting nightly audits.
Will report directly to the Front Desk Manager at Grand Hotel or to the Front Desk Supervisor at Bicycle Street Inn.
Three (3) months of guest service experience at a high-end hotel, resort, or private club required.
All worksites located in Mackinac Island, Michigan. Occasional travel may be required between worksites; however, all worksites are within walking distance of each other.
Daily transportation to and from worksite is provided for workers living in St. Ignace employee housing.
On-the-job training is provided.
Wage: $15.60 - $20.60 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Overtime is available at $23.40 - $30.90 per hour. Employees may also be eligible for additional compensation in the form of a discretionary bonus or incentive.
Schedule: 40 hours per week. Work schedule can vary and can include evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Work may be performed on any day of the week from Monday through Sunday. Example shifts: 7:00AM – 3:00PM, 10:00AM – 6:00PM, or 3:00PM – 11:00PM. Shift hours may vary.
A single workweek will be used to compute wages due.
Optional dormitory-style, shared housing is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis for workers who are relocating to begin employment. Cost of housing, which includes meals and utilities, if accepted, is $136.50 per week. If used, total cost of housing will be deducted from paycheck. A $250.00 security deposit is required to be deducted from paycheck in equal $50.00 installments from employee’s first five (5) paychecks. Deposit may be returned to the employee based on the condition of the housing, at the employer’s sole discretion, at the end of the employment period. An optional meal plan is also available to workers who do not live in housing. If elected, meals costs of $9.50 per day will be deducted from paycheck.
Additional, optional benefits may be offered to worker, for worker’s sole benefit, including but not limited to health, vision, dental, life, and pet insurance, 401k plan, optional charitable donations, shuttle transportation, on-property purchases (including voluntary Shoes for Crews purchases), and short-term and long-term disability. If voluntarily elected by worker, employee costs/contributions for benefits will be deducted from paycheck.
In accordance with applicable Michigan state law, Earned Sick Time Act 338, employers are required to provide earned sick time to their employees. The amount of paid sick leave provided may vary depending on the size of the business.
All deductions from paycheck required by law will be made.
If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, employer will provide or pay for worker’s reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer. The employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for all reasonable inbound transportation and subsistence costs within the first workweek. The employer will pay directly for and/or reimburse workers for all reasonable outbound transportation and subsistence costs during the last workweek. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts.
The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period.
The employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job.
H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by government (excluding passport fees).
