We are seeking a professional and courteous Office Assistant to join our team in our New Haven, Michigan location. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others and possess strong organizational skills. This role is essential in providing support to our funeral directors and ensuring a welcomning environment for our clients.
General Office Duties:
- Answer phone calls and respond to emails in a professional and timely manner, assisting clients and responding to inquiries.
- Schedule appointments and manage calendars for funeral directors and other staff.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
- Write and proofread obituaries
- Design and create funeral stationary, including memorial folders, prayer cards, acknowledgement cards, any other printed materials requested by families.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of funeral services, contracts, payments and client information.
- File and organize documents in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Maintain Funeral Home Environment:
- Ensure that the funeral home is clean, organized, and always welcoming to the public.
- Monitor and manage the overall appearance of the public areas, including arranging flowers, seating, and other elements for service.
Vendor and Staff Coordination:
- Coordinate with external vendors such as florists, cemeteries, and transportation providers to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Work closely with funeral home staff (including clergy, drivers and others) to smooth coordination of services on the day of the funeral.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal skills, with an attention to detail in writing obituaries and other materials
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong Organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to handle sensitive and emotional situations with professionalism and empathy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively

Schedule
Job Type: Full-Time
40 hours -primarily Monday through Friday (weekends as needed)
Pay: Negotiable based upon qualifications
