Biology Assistant (6 positions) - Starting Wage $15.50/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in collecting, sampling and processing mosquito samples for arbovirus testing and other testing that may be required. Assists in processing specimens based on knowledge of various disease life cycles.
- Monitors various mosquito breeding habitats such as roadside ditches, cross country drains, tire piles, sewage lagoons, seasonally flooded woodlots, etc., for larval activity.
- Collects adult mosquito samples from various adult mosquito traps including New Jersey Lights Traps, CDC Traps, and Gravid Traps. Counts, sorts, sexes, and identifies mosquitoes captured.
- Performs quality assurance to ensure proper application and performance of control products. This includes insecticide droplet characterization, field inspections, control product testing and monitoring insecticide resistance. Includes tending to live mosquito collections.
- Performs larviciding and adulticiding in support of field operations.
- Enters mosquito and disease surveillance data on computer, tablet, or smart phone.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record, and obtain the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development's Registered Pesticide Applicator Certification prior to employment (paid for by employer).

Wages & Hours:
Starting wage for most first year employees is $15.25 to $15.50 per hour based on position.
Season begins late April and runs through the month of September. Full-time positions are available working up to 40 hours per week. Part-time positions are only available on the night shift.
