General Statement of Duties

Individual in this position is responsible for the direct supervision, guidance, treatment, and care of detained residents with emphasis upon observation, inter-personal relationship, group process, recreation, personal hygiene, and security in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Individual is responsible for written reports documenting a resident’s behavior while detained. Individual is expected to continue his/her professional development through an organized staff training program.

Qualifications

• A direct care worker shall have completed 30 semester hours of college or equivalent quarter hours.
• In place of meeting the requirement specified above, a direct care worker shall have a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of work experience in a facility or child caring institution.

Saginaw County is a drug-free workplace as such individuals must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen (marijuana is included) and pre-employment physical.
