Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.
Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $47,360-$50,900
Travel: Less than 10%
Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties: Work with an interdisciplinary research and clinical team in the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center to evaluate the translational application of a diagnostic and prognostic tools used in glioma characterization. Functioning somewhat independently, perform laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines. Assist the principal investigators with summarization, analysis, and organization of data for publication; assist with preparation of grant applications; and assist and/or teach undergraduate/graduate students. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing cell culture, protein expression and purification, biochemical assays, and nucleic acid amplification techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline/Degree Area: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related scientific discipline
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Required Minimum Work Experience: One year of molecular, cellular biology, and/or biochemistry laboratory experience. (Laboratory experience as part of a research-based undergraduate or graduate experience will be considered.)
One year of experience performing protein expression and purification and SDS-PAGE analysis.
One year of experience performing nucleic acid-based amplification assays.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Proficiency in using common lab equipment (e.g., centrifuges, pH meters, spectrophotometers) and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment.
Undergraduate coursework in biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics.
Strong command of basic laboratory techniques and meticulous record keeping skills.
Effective communication skills.
Strong analytical abilities.
Strong organizational skills for managing supplies, records, and maintaining a well-organized lab environment.
Ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a research team.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with fluorescent probes for the detection of metabolites.
Experience using a fluorescent plate reader and subsequent analysis.
