Highway Operator
Minocqua
Oneida County is now hiring for a Highway Operator position with the Highway Department. This position will work out of the Minocqua shop in the winter months and Rhinelander shop in the summer months.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
Position is responsible for repairing, clearing, and maintaining highways, roads, rights-of-way, and roadsides while operating a variety of vehicles, equipment, and hand tools. Assists with traffic flagging and other manual labor tasks, supports snow removal and storm damage cleanup efforts, and performs minor repairs along with routine and preventive maintenance on department vehicles and equipment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Three years work experience in highway maintenance or closely related work.
- Must live within 30 minutes of the Minocqua shop.
- D.L. (Commercial Driver’s License) is required. Class B license with tanker and air break endorsements is required but Class A license is preferred.
WORK HOURS: These full-time positions work Monday through Thursday from 6:00AM to 4:00PM during summer months. Winter hours vary based on snow removal needs. Overtime is paid for weekend hours worked and position may be required, as needed, to work nights and weekends for snow removal and storm cleanup.
WAGES AND HOURS: Starting 2026 hourly wage of $26.79 plus $1.50 per hour for winter maintenance pay for November through March.
