Building Inspector
Part-time
Hourly Wage: $33.55 - $43.61
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Building Director, performs construction plan reviews and conducts inspections of all phases of new construction. As part of the inspection process determines conformity to building codes and ordinances, initiates compliance actions when violations are found, and prepares required reports. Enforces other property-related ordinances; serves as the Dangerous Buildings Officer; assists in the rental registration program as necessary. Performs a variety of administrative and technical functions involved with oversight and permitting of construction activities in the Township. Provides support to the Building Director and staff as directed.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
• Documented experience in the construction industry as inspector, trades, code enforcement, and/or residential construction.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of building construction including building, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems, and possess the ability to read blueprints and apply relevant federal, state or local code requirements to construction projects.
• Organized and able to set priorities, be able to effectively communicate in oral and written formats with coworkers, contractors, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED, supplemented by specialized training in building construction and/or skilled trades.
• Must possess and maintain a registration as a Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer by the State of Michigan.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
