Description
Purpose / ScopeSupport the maintenance team by learning to maintain, repair, and install plant and yard equipment while practicing safe, effective problem-solving.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with mechanical maintenance on plant and yard equipment.
Help track parts, tools, and supplies and communicate needs to the supervisor.
Support maintenance tasks and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Willingness to learn mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic welding skills through on-the-job training.
Comfortable using basic hand and power tools.
Ability to learn safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, hot-work procedures, and confined-space basics.
Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and work alongside experienced technicians.
Ability to read or learn to read parts diagrams and equipment manuals.
Basic troubleshooting mindset and interest in diagnosing mechanical issues.
Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts, skid steers, aerial lifts, and other plant equipment.
Dependable, safety-focused, and able to work independently once trained.
Basic computer literacy; willingness to learn CMMS/IFS systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a manufacturing, construction, or mechanical environment (internship, summer job, shop class, or similar).
Basic exposure to maintenance, welding, automotive repair, or equipment operation.
Enrollment in or completion of a technical program, trades coursework, or related certifications.
Familiarity with basic safety practices in an industrial setting.
Demonstrated interest in mechanical or technical work (projects, hobby work, etc.).
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.; good depth perception and spatial awareness.
Able to walk, climb, bend, reach, use hand tools forcefully, and communicate clearly in a noisy environment.
Work Environment
Indoor/outdoor plant and yard settings.
Exposure to year-round Midwest/Northeast weather, dirt, dust, loud machinery, vibrations, uneven surfaces, stairs, and varying lighting conditions.
