Position Summary:
The Spring Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the design, development, and release of spring components for automotive suspension systems. This role ensures that spring designs meet performance, durability, cost, and regulatory requirements while supporting vehicle programs from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development
Develop coil springs, leaf springs, torsion bars, and air springs for suspension systems.
Perform packaging studies and ensure compatibility with suspension, wheel, and tire systems.
Apply GD&T principles and tolerance analysis for robust designs.
Analysis & Validation
Conduct FEA for stress, fatigue, and NVH performance.
Create and manage DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report) for spring components.
Support physical testing and correlate results with analytical predictions.
Program Management
Own design release process in PLM systems (Teamcenter, ENOVIA).
Manage engineering changes and maintain BOM accuracy.
Ensure timely delivery of components to meet program milestones.
Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with suppliers on design feasibility, manufacturing processes, and cost optimization.
Collaborate with suspension, vehicle dynamics, and manufacturing teams.
Compliance
Ensure designs meet OEM standards, SAE specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Support DFMEA and PFMEA for risk mitigation.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Materials, Automotive Engineering).
Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
a minimum of 5 years in suspension or chassis engineering, with spring design experience preferred.
Familiarity with vehicle dynamics and ride/handling performance targets.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA V5, NX).
Experience with CAE tools for FEA and fatigue analysis.
Knowledge of steel grades, heat treatment, shot peening, and corrosion protection.
Understanding of APQP and PPAP processes.
Soft Skills:
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work under tight timelines and manage multiple programs.
Preferred Tools & Systems:
PLM systems (Teamcenter, ENOVIA).
DFMEA/PFMEA methodologies.
Familiarity with NVH analysis tools.
