Position Title: Part-Time Nursing Success Coach

Starting Salary: $30.73 – $34.42 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Funding: Grant-funded position through August 31, 2026
Position Summary
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion (BEDI) in students, faculty, and staff.
The Nursing Success Coach plays a multi-faceted role in promoting the academic success of nursing students from clinical entry through graduation. This position provides direct student support, helping to identify barriers to success, assisting with learning processes, clinical skills, and reasoning, and connecting students to additional support resources.
The Nursing Success Coach will also assist with the marketing of the ADN to BSN 3+1 program with SVSU, student recruitment, advising, data collection, and student retention initiatives. Additionally, this role will facilitate community partnerships and outreach and collaborate with faculty, staff, and advisors to develop individualized success plans for students. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean.
Responsibilities and Duties
Mentoring
- Serve enrolled students as an academic mentor and coach, with a focus on success and retention.
- Provide nursing content-specific coaching and tutoring to support students in developing clinical reasoning and judgment.
- Develop personalized retention activities for individuals and groups, available in person, synchronously, and asynchronously online.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop individualized success plans based on student learning needs, using College resources (e.g., Office of Disability Resources, Counseling Services).
- Develop and implement effective remediation strategies that build student confidence and academic success.
- Monitor student academic standards, progression, and retention through the Delta College Nursing Program and ADN to BSN 3+1 curriculum.
- Create student development activities (e.g., study skills, time management, test-taking strategies, APA writing techniques).
- Serve as a resource for nursing student retention strategies, collaborating with faculty and academic advisors.
- Utilize strong planning, organizing, decision-making, and result-oriented skills as an experienced nursing professional.
Advising
- Provide academic advising for ADN to BSN 3+1 students, collaborating with SVSU RN to BSN Coordinators to ensure students take appropriate courses.
- Review SVSU residency credit requirements to ensure students complete only required courses.
Partnerships
- Work collaboratively with staff at Delta College and SVSU to support academic success for RN to BSN students.
- Maintain a list of approved ADN to BSN award participants for reporting to SVSU.
- Facilitate community partnerships and outreach initiatives with hospitals and healthcare organizations.
Administrative
- Review and approve grant funding awards for eligible students, ensuring funds are distributed appropriately.
- Report awards to Delta College Student Billing and Financial Aid each semester.
- Maintain up-to-date participant data for accurate tracking of fund disbursement.
- Submit required grant reports to the Nursing Discipline Coordinator, Associate Dean, and Dean of Occupational Programs and Workforce Strategies.
- Assist with the development of policies, proposals, communications, and reports related to student success, retention, and program progression.
- Monitor and analyze student referrals, progression, retention, and graduation rates, identifying students at risk and implementing strategies to support success.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Three or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, unencumbered Michigan RN License.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Experiences Considered
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred (or a master’s degree in a related area).
- Prior instructional experience in a baccalaureate or associate degree nursing program (didactic and/or clinical teaching).
- Experience in student or employee success programs.
