Position Title: Teacher - Early Childhood Special Education (Full-Time)

Reports To: Director of Special Education or designated supervisor
Position Summary
A Teacher for early childhood students operates a non-categorical special education classroom and/or coordinates services for children who have been identified as having a developmental disability. This position may include responsibilities involved with community integration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides basic overall readiness skills to students in the classroom.
- Oversees paraeducators and other staff assigned to the classroom
- Develops and implements goals and objectives in accordance with special education rules and regulations and with students’ IEPs.
- Maintains regular communication with parents / guardians.
- Participates in IEPs and other meetings as necessary.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining a budget for classroom / staff functions.
- Provides resources and assistance to preschool staff, including public and private facilities.
- Coordinates and monitors inclusive curricular and adaptation needs, and assists local districts with transitional and/or inclusive opportunities.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with all staff, families, local districts and community agencies.
- Maintains appropriate documentation, paperwork and progress reports.
- Attends staff meetings and professional development as appropriate.
- Performs related work as requested.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university.
- Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Endorsement in Early Childhood (ZA or ZS).
- Experience interacting with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective scheduling.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively work with students, parents, staff, other agencies and the general public.
- Computer literacy, including the ability to word process, utilize software applications and use electronic mail.
SALARY: Salary and benefits in accordance with Master
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see and hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Occasional travel may be required. Noise levels are typically moderate.
