Under the supervision of ACFS Supervisor, perform a wide range of duties assisting Anishnaabeg Child and Family Services (ACFS) with out-of-home foster care home placements. All ACFS staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work within a tribal community assisting tribal families with the skills necessary to access services and programming that will enhance their wellbeing.
- Work with the tribal community assisting families to understand the social services system; case plans, court hearing procedures, parents rights and other available resources, etc.
- Assist tribal clients in filling forms out for various programs and provide routine information when desired.
- Assist tribal family with support services that may include, but not limited to, making home visits, providing transportation, filing, data entry, and collecting case related documents.
- Assist tribal families about seat belt laws in regards to transportation of minor clients.
- Keep updated training in regards to seat belt safety of minor clients
- Assist tribal families when supervising parent-child visits and preparing reports concerning the visit.
- Advocate for clients by communicating child and family needs to assigned caseworker and care coordination team members.
- Conduct random alcohol and drug screens.
- Participate in ACFS staff meetings and training.
- Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with ACFS policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:
- Tribal community to include tribal youth, employees within immediate organization, members of the general public as individuals or groups, including, state, and federal agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Social Services, Human Services or related field.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and have good computer skills.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- Two years social services or human services experience.
- Experience with Native American communities.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Obtain HIPAA certification within five business days of hire.
- Must have a valid State of Michigan Drivers License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of Social Services practices and programs.
- Knowledge of foster care principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Child Protection Teams, and State and Federal programs and their codes and
- Skill in human relations as required working with children, youth and families.
- Skill in operating various word-processing and database software programs.
- Skill in treating clients with tact, courtesy, and respect.
- Skill in preparing, reviewing and analyzing operational and financial reports.
- Ability to work under heavy stress situations.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
- Ability to react quickly and make effective decisions in an emergency situation.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.

Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
- Required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Normal office environment.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
- Travel may be required.
