Position Overview:
Market the Michigan Works! Service Centers to the employers in the region and educate them regarding services available. Develop and maintain meaningful contacts that result in quality employment opportunities and economic growth.
Essential Job Functions:
- Promote Michigan Works! programs; organize, promote, and facilitate employer expos, job fairs, open houses and forums; make presentations; answer questions from the business community, other agencies and the general public;
- Serve as liaison between Michigan Works! and community growth alliances, economic development corporations, local chambers of commerce, community college business centers, and all Michigan Works! partners to provide information, technical assistance and maintain cooperative relationships.
- Prepare and submit monthly, a summary of community activities, as discussed at chamber meetings, college business centers, etc.;
- Inform businesses regarding available resources, including but not limited to, the Pure Michigan Talent Connect (PMTC) or any other social media, Job Orders, and training opportunities;
- Assist businesses with identifying solutions for their general business needs, including preparing job descriptions, and helping with referrals to appropriate resources for services such as screening, testing, sorting, and interviewing;
- Maintain awareness of potential closings in the business community to provide maximum lead-time for dislocated worker services, including participation in worker orientations and/or Rapid Response meetings;
- Develop and maintain meaningful community contacts that result in quality employment opportunities, training contracts, and long-term job retention;
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of performance objectives, including common measures, and how placement, retention, and post-program follow-up affect these; develop strategies with team members to ensure success;
- Maintain current awareness of local and regional labor market needs;
- Share, discuss, and educate co-workers and partner staff regarding job orders, local labor market conditions and community events;
- Meet employment and training goals set by the Business Solutions Manager and complete assignments;
- Responsible for entering, maintaining and updating well-organized and accurate databases, as assigned;
- Complete all necessary paperwork on a timely basis and use MIS and assigned database as directed;
- Represent job seekers to employers, as needed;
- Provide assistance/training to area businesses on how to access and use the Pure Michigan Talent Connect and other opportunities.
- Coordinate with other staff members and meet with participants to determine their suitability for referrals to specific employers and their potential for training contracts;
- Develop training contracts, adhering to all up-to-date policies and procedures;
- Review training site for any evident safety problems to ensure a good working environment;
- Complete formal written monitoring of training contracts as required during the contract time period, ensuring documentation is in the file and on the MIS;
- Assure appropriate training reimbursement paperwork is submitted within specified time frame;
- Act as liaison between individuals on subsidized employment contracts and the employer to ensure success in the workplace;
- Participate in continuing education as required;
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Michigan Works! experience preferred. Ability to work in a team approach, excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated skills working with both clients and employers required.
Education Preferences: Associates Degree
Expected Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, up to 40 with Supervisor approval
Travel Requirements: Frequent independent travel throughout the eight-county region in all seasons is required. Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Environmental Conditions: The majority of the work is completed in indoor office settings; however, the employee will be infrequently exposed to the following environmental conditions:
- Exposure to outdoor conditions including extremes of temperature and humidity.
- Visiting a variety of worksites will occasionally include exposure to dust/vapor fumes, moving objects, hazardous machines, electrical exposure, and slippery work surfaces-floors.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly expected to verbally communicate in a variety of environments, including those with high levels of background noise.
- The employee frequently is required to move about the worksites. This may require negotiating stairs and uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to operate a computer using word-processing and spreadsheet programs, such as Word and Excel. Competence in using presentation software, such as PowerPoint, would be beneficial.
- Must be able to read and understand written documentation.
- This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and carry materials, such as office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
