As our Press Operator Apprentice, you’ll gain foundational skills in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a printing press while supporting a team committed to excellence and mission impact.
In this role, you won’t just learn to operate machinery—you’ll build hands-on expertise that prepares you for a full Press Operator role, contributing directly to the production of materials that support our global ministry.
What You’ll Do
- Learn Press Operations: Work under the direction of a qualified Press Operator to set up, operate, and maintain printing presses.
- Ensure Safety: Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials and compliance with lockout/tagout protocols.
- Maintain Quality: Adhere to quality control guidelines, SOPs, and process checklists to ensure high-quality output.
- Prepare for Production Runs: Assist in reviewing job specifications, setting up the press, and inspecting key press systems.
- Monitor Paper Flow: Load paper, operate paper joggers, and perform necessary paper transfers during production.
- Support Maintenance Tasks: Collaborate with Press Operators and Press Assistants on routine and preventive maintenance.
- Learn Printing Skills: Gain hands-on experience with measuring color and alignment, and learn to spot and correct common print issues.
What You Bring
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Interest in hands-on technical tasks and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Reliability: Strong attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work flexible shifts or overtime as needed.
- Experience: Previous manufacturing or printing experience preferred.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read job tickets, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and safety procedures.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 20–50 lbs occasionally and stand for extended periods.
- Color Awareness: Ability to distinguish and identify color variations.
