Position Overview
The Business Development & Operations Manager (BDOM) plays a dual leadership
role—driving new business opportunities and ensuring operational excellence across Energy Design Engineers’ day-to-day functions.
Success in this position is defined by:
- Generating qualified appointments and opportunities that convert to profitable projects.
- Maintaining organized systems, documentation, and client processes to ensure smooth operations.
- Supporting the President and field team with high-level coordination, marketing, and customer success activities.
Performance will be evaluated monthly
- Complete and submit utility rebate and financing applications (Michigan Saves, Team Financial)
- Assist the President and SLL team with scheduling, orders, and internal coordination
- Update website news, press releases, and client case studies
- Schedule annual compressed-air and lighting renewals, ensuring on-time follow-ups
- Deliver error-free documents and meet all deadlines
Key Responsibilities
- Appointments & Pipeline:
- Schedule a minimum of five (5) qualified new client appointments per month.
- Maintain accurate information within Apollo.io and utilize it for all aspects of sales and lead development, including but not limited to phone calls, emails, and other communication channels.
- Maintain and update the SLL Sales Pipeline and the Sustainability Metrics Dashboard with accurate information for each of our projects.
- Project Documentation:
- Maintain complete and organized client folders in Dropbox, including W-9s, surveys, energy bills, and photos.
- Ensure project binders and documentation are completed and delivered to clients at project close-out.
- Utility & Financing Coordination:
- Submit and monitor all utility rebate applications and financing paperwork with Michigan Saves and Team Financial.
- Shipping & Orders:
- Oversee order processing and shipments for Energy Design Engineers,
- SmartPro Controls, and related partner companies.
- Client Recognition:
- Coordinate delivery or presentation of the Environmental Award for projects exceeding $50,000.
- Marketing & Outreach:
- Maintain the company website, news, and LinkedIn updates on a monthly basis.
- Finalize press releases and case studies for each major project (content provided by the engineering or sales team).
- Scheduling & Events:
- Plan internal meetings, training, and special company events.
- Spec Sheets & Forms:
- Create and maintain updated specification sheets and new client forms as needed.
Compensation Structure
Base Salary
$55,000 per year, paid bi-weekly via ACH.
Commissions
- Commissions Based on Performance
- Quarterly Performance Bonus
- When the team meets its quarterly revenue goal, five percent (5%) of the total quarterly gross profit is distributed among team members who average 20 hours or more per week.
- Annual Team Bonus
- If Energy Design Engineers achieves its annual revenue target, an additional five percent (5%) of annual gross profit is distributed proportionally to eligible employees.
Benefits & Allowances
- Medical Allowance: $500 per month (until the company health plan is implemented).
- Mileage Reimbursement: $0.50 per mile for approved business travel (not including daily commute).
- Paid Holidays: All major U.S. holidays.
- Paid Vacation:
- 1 week after 6 months
- 2 weeks after 2 years
- 3 weeks after 3 years
