Job Description

Munising Public Schools is seeking a qualified Behavioral Support Specialist to provide comprehensive behavioral, therapeutic, and counseling support services to K-12 at-risk (31a) students in need of social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions. This position will focus on the development, implementation, and coordination of individualized and systemic support practices and strategies that foster student well-being and promote academic and behavioral success for secondary students (grades 5-12).

The Behavioral Support Specialist will work collaboratively with staff, students, families, and administration to provide interventions through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Services may include individual and group counseling, behavioral intervention planning, crisis response, and development of positive behavioral supports. The specialist will be a key member of building and district-level support teams. The longevity of this position is contingent upon available and eligible categorical funding.

Additional Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Education, Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
Experience working with K-12 students, especially those considered at-risk
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to provide effective social-emotional and behavioral supports
Flexibility and cultural competence in diverse school settings
Familiarity with Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), trauma-informed practices, and restorative approaches

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Michigan Professional Counselor License (LPC)
OR Valid Michigan Limited Professional Counselor License (LLPC)
OR one of the following school counseling credentials:

School Counselor License (SCL)
Michigan Teaching Certificate with the School Counselor (NT) Endorsement
Preliminary School Counselor License (PSCL)
Temporary School Counselor License (TSCL)

Knowledge of special education services and laws relating to behavior interventions
Knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and writing BIPs
Familiarity with 31a funding requirements and student support documentation
Willingness to participate in extracurricular or co-curricular student support programs
