Position Summary:
The Department of English Language and Literature at Central Michigan University seeks a full-time, benefit-eligible, fixed-term non-tenure-track faculty member for the Spring 2026 semester. This position begins on January 8, 2026, and ends on May 13, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for the 2026–27 academic year, pending performance and department need.
Duties include:
• Teach four sections per semester, from among three courses (as needed and assigned): ENG 101 (Introductory Composition), ENG 103 (First-Year Writing, which also has a 1-credit Writing Center co-requisite), and ENG 201 (Intermediate Composition). Modalities may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online asynchronous. If reappointed for the 2026-27 academic year, these teaching duties will expand to include (as needed and assigned) two new composition courses: ENG 202: Narrative Nonfiction Writing and ENG 203: Technical Writing.
• Engage in professional development activities within the department (as needed).
• Fixed-term faculty are invited, but not required, to join department committees as well as committees, cohorts, and working groups at the college and university level.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Composition and Rhetoric, English Language and Literature, or a closely related field.
• Experience teaching college composition and developmental writing.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with students who struggle with writing, including those for whom English is a second language.
• Experience teaching online or in hybrid delivery formats.
• Experience as a Writing Center consultant.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

The Department of English Language & Literature is part of the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and is located in Anspach Hall on the main campus in Mount Pleasant, MI.
