SUMMARY: This position is responsible for revenue cycle activities for LTBB Health Department, including Crooked Tree Wellness Clinic, in order to maximize billing revenue. This position has options of work in-office, remote, or hybrid.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides excellent customer service to clients, vendors and fellow employees. Represents the LTBB Health Department in a professional and positive manner
- Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities. Must be culturally competent and meet the health literacy and linguistic needs of target populations
- Proficiently use Epic EMR systems and clearinghouse databases to maximize the pace and flow of revenue recognition and collection
- Maintain user access to organizational payor portals, process additional user requests as needed
- Perform coding review and create chart addenda as required by current coding guidelines and established departmental policy. Engage with providers as needed for diagnosis and procedure code verification
- Perform claim follow up activities, including denial processing, perform payor contacts, and file denial appeals as required
- Work with other revenue cycle staff to perform daily and weekly activities, including charge review, claim edits, and payment posting to maximize revenue collection for all billable visits
- Assist the Assistant Health Director in performing quarterly reconciliation and billing and coding audits in accordance with internal controls policy and procedures
- Assist in the update of established policy and procedures for revenue cycle operations
- Serve as subject matter expert for Epic billing functions and assist with troubleshooting as needed.
- Maintain billing module, interface with Epic Revenue Cycle Analyst to review build changes, request modifications to systems, and troubleshoot system issues as they arise.
- Prepare revenue reports as directed by Assistant Health Director
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED required. AAPC or AHIMA Certification required. Associates degree in Accounting, Business, or Health field preferred. Three years’ proven experience billing in the Epic EMR system required, five years preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience working with Medicaid institutional billing is preferred. Experience working in tribal community preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must be able to build and maintain professional working relationships with outside entities. Must be able to multi-task and thrive in a fast paced, busy working environment. Must have a strong attention to detail. Must maintain accurate and organized records of all revenue and audit findings. Must possess strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). Must be able to create formulas in Excel and maintain Excel spreadsheets. Must have strong written skills and be able to compose a professional business letter, memo, and report. Must be able to verbally communicate in a clear and confident manner, in person and on the phone with a variety of stakeholders. Must be proficient in basic math. Must be willing to travel occasionally, including air travel and several consecutive nights. Must be reliable and able to follow work rules and schedule. Must be able to work as part of a team in delivery of Health Department goals. Conducts behavior in a manner that is professional and courteous to all patients and staff at all times. Must have knowledge of medical office operating procedures, with knowledge of computers and calculators. The ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness is essential.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable for duration of employment.
COMMENTS: Indian (Native American) preference will apply. Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation. Individual must have a positive job history with former employers, including LTBB. Individual must take TB test and get influenza vaccination annually due to working in a health setting.
