Shop Assistant – Job Opening
Job Overview:
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Shop Floor Assistants to join our team. The employee will work alongside our experienced journeymen on a variety of projects that involve machine maintenance, print reading, minor fabrication, cleaning, painting, and some other miscellaneous duties (depending on areas of interest and experience/coursework). Depending on aptitude and commitment this role could be a steppingstone into our state accredited apprenticeship program to become a journeyman.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with setting up and maintaining machinery and tools.
- Help prepare materials and parts for machining processes.
- Clean and organize the shop floor, ensuring a safe and tidy work environment.
- Support machinists in job setup, fabrication, and assembly as needed.
- Perform basic quality checks on parts and finished products.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of supplies and materials.
- Check in and organize incoming stock & process receipt in ERP system.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Keep workstations, tools, and equipment in good working order.
- Local pickups and deliveries to customers and suppliers as needed.
- Perform other general labor tasks as assigned by supervisors or senior staff.
Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a small, collaborative team.
- Experience with basic hand tools and measuring devices; metal fabrication and welding experience preferred.
