Machine Builder – Job Opening
Job Overview:
The Builder is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, run-off, and installation at customer (if required) of complex machinery and automation systems by working with the Job Lead and other project team members to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review engineering designs, prints, tolerances, and specifications to build and assemble equipment accurately.
- Assist Job Lead in requisition of needed job materials and components based on bill of materials and prints, including providing the list of machined details and necessary materials to the CNC department and tracking to ensure on-time delivery and inventory of materials and components.
- Assist Apprentices in the completion of job responsibilities as assigned, including training them as needed to enhance their skills and capabilities in coordination with Job Leads.
- Act as back-up to Job Lead in keeping progress moving forward and communicating with customers, suppliers, and project team members as needed in their absence.
- Work with Electricians and outside contracted help as needed to complete the wiring and controls assembly.
- Accurately record hours on each job in Epicor and communicate with Job Lead to ensure expected total hours are within budget.
- Support the installation and testing of machines on-site and troubleshoot any issues that arise in coordination with the Job Lead to ensure progress and issues are appropriately documented (may require occasion travel to customer locations).
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with Alto policies and standards, maintaining shop equipment to ensure quality and functionality, and maintaining orderly and adequate stock of commonly used inventory as needed to keep the shop running efficiently.
- Participate in continuous improvement and best practices training to improve shop processes and reduce costs.
Qualifications:
- Journeyman card or 5+ years of related trade experience.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering designs and prints for equipment, including a working knowledge of Solid Works for reviewing models.
- Ability to fabricate and machine details for equipment utilizing appropriate materials and machine tools, as well as welding equipment and other hand tools as required.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulic components.
- Ability to communicate well with others both verbally and in writing (including team members, customers, and suppliers).
- Ability to utilize computer software including Epicor ERP, Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams to communicate effectively and manage track jobs.
- Efficient time management - must be self-driven.
