Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, prepare cultural activities such as ceremonies, feasts, sweats, baby celebrations, and other seasonal activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and conduct cultural activities and events including ceremonies, feasts, sweats, and other celebrations.
- Serve as a representative of the program to provide updates regarding events, gathering, and promotion of the 7th Generation program.
- Attend and become actively involved in workshops such as lodge building, regalia making, beadwork, quillwork, drumming, etc.
- Plan and coordinate art projects from wood and stone; workshops on harvest and food preparation. Plan and provide cultural presentations to local organizations who request 7th Generations services.
- Conduct regularly scheduled cultural workshops for interested community members.
- Assist other tribal departments with cultural arts projects and activities.
- Provide both formal and informal lessons on SCIT history and traditions.
- Work closely with Anishinaabe Language Revitalization Department Outreach Specialist to incorporate Anishinaabe language into 7th Generation programming.
- Order material and maintain inventory for workshops.
- Keep craft room, stone shop, and woodshop clean and organized.
- Maintain and clean kitchen after events.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:
- Contact is with department employees and supervisors to ensure the success of the 7th generation program.
- Contact with Tribal community to help develop communication links for coordination of cultural services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Cultural experience, traditional cultural and spiritual way of life.
- Must be able to pass a background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- Anishinaabe art skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid State of Michigan Drivers License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the history, culture, and cultural needs of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
- Knowledge of art projects, farming, harvest, and canning.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
- Ability to present information and workshops.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
- Occasional garden work in hot weather.
- Occasional work in outdoor settings for ceremonies, harvesting saplings & medicines, etc.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Normal office environment.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
- Travel may be required.
