Welder & Fabricator
The Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding a variety of assemblies, such as beams, columns, stairs and railings.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work from instructions and prints, clamp pieces into position and tack weld and/or apply finished weld. Select proper equipment, set voltage and wire feed settings to obtain proper strength and appearance.
- Grind welds to finish standard per job.
- Safely operate forklift and bridge crane to load and unload raw material and completed parts.
- Handle assorted raw materials, steel parts, and steel scrap.
- Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition. Follow all safety work rules.
- Perform work in a manner that all products conform to prescribed quality standards.
- Perform incoming inspection on raw material, sorting, receiving of bar stock, pipe, rod material and welding supplies.
- Perform light maintenance on equipment where needed; i.e., start up/shutdown, maintain inspection records and keep work environment clean.
- Use and understand online ERP system for data collection, work instructions, routers and prints.
- Operate small electric/air hand tools.
- On occasion, cross-train and operate some or all of the following equipment: press brake, ring roller, draw bender, sander, shear, stick, TIG and MIG.
- Participate in and support continuous process improvements.
Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and overhead work. Employee has some exposure to fumes, glare and radiation of arc. The employee is occasionally required to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
Required Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years welding experience either in school or on the job.
- Be willing to perform a weld test at time of in person interview.
- Ability to work safely while operating welding and fabricating equipment.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with personnel and read and interpret documents, such as welding blueprints.
- Proficient with mathematical calculations and use of measuring devices.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Welding AAS Degree/Diploma/Certificate.
- 2+ years welding experience.
- Knowledge and experience working in a metal fabrication environment.
