JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary:
The Automation Engineer Intern will support automation-related projects for complete seat production. This individual will work under the guidance of an automation engineer to assist in the development, implementation, and optimization of automated systems and processes throughout the manufacturing environment.
Summer Interns will work 40 hours per week (full-time), with a targeted start date of May 5, 2026 through August 14, 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Working under the guidance of an automation engineer, the Automation Engineer Intern will do the following related to complete seat assembly and production automation project(s):
Assist in the design, development, and integration of automated systems and robotics for manufacturing processes
Specify automation components and technologies required for projects
Develop schematics, drawings, and documentation for automated equipment
Support installation and configuration of hardware and software for automation solutions
Develop, modify, or troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and robotic programs used in automation
Participate in testing, startup, and debugging of automated systems
Contribute to equipment design reviews, installations, and optimizations at local complete seat plants
Update or create documentation related to automation standards and best practices
Other position requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university and working towards a 4-year B.S. degree in Electrical, Controls, Computer, or Automation Engineering
Available to work up to 40 hours per week
Minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0
Previous internship or co-op experience in an automotive or manufacturing-related position is an added plus
Proficiency in MS Office
Strong computer skills with ability to quickly learn new software/applications
Analytical problem solving
Strong communication, presentation, and teamwork skills including the ability to write clear, concise technical documentation
Thinks Analytically - The ability to break down problems and gain understanding to make effective decisions
