Description:
The Supervisor, Fuel Handling is responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of the operation of the Fuel Handling Department. The incumbent supervises a team responsible for safely receiving rail cars of coal, unloading rail cars, and supplying boilers with a steady stream of coal thru a complex conveyor system that fuels the plant. Responsible for supervising a team that maintains bottom ash ponds, fly ash silos, and ash landfill where remnants of the coal burning process are stored. These responsibilities adhere to all regulatory and environmental standards.
Other duties as assigned or may be necessary:
Understand creation/updating of visual management problem solving, Lean methods tool education and utilization. Understand and ensure
adherence to environmental regulations. Oversee work management by executing monthly maintenance plans and by managing emergent repairs.
Manage quality of fleet vehicles and repairs. Understand company and departmental metrics/financials, departmental budget, identify and execute Waste Elimination/automation projects, input and follow through to completion for cost savings ideas. Lead/participate in Daily Operating Reviews, Weekly Operating Reviews, Monthly Operating Reviews, Rally Rooms, Problem Solving Events, Safety Health and Guidance Teams, Safety Culture Teams, Safety Grass Roots Teams. Delivery of safety messages. Oversee worker personal protection. Address safety concerns/hazards. Manage fuel path housekeeping to meet combustible dust standards. Ensure adherence to Corporate Safety Manual, Procedures Manual, MIOSHA standards, OSHA standards. Coordinate and direct the following activities: coal train deliveries with rail service or vessel, switching of train cars with on-site train car repair facility, ensure consistent quality fuel to all bunkers to supply plant, administer switching and tagging procedure. Manage the placement of spray dry absorber (SDA) by-product. Directly supervise union employees in operation of fuel handling and landfill equipment and maintain equipment integrity including education, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct and all Employee Policies and Process manuals. Execute Time Sheet approval, Estimated Straight Time accounting, training scheduling, Read and Sign scheduling/adherence, ARCOS entry, edits and reporting, request and reserve on call resources, Personal Protective Equipment acquisition and distribution including inspection, testing and replacement. Lead oversight of grievance procedures, on investigations (safety and disciplinary) and associated disciplinary recourse.
