STUDY ABROAD ADVISOR

Position Summary:
Responsible for advising students about study abroad programs which includes preparing marketing materials and coordinating promotions and special events for study abroad. Manages Student International Travel Registry and advises incoming international exchange students.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience studying, working or living abroad.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to accurately maintain required records and reports.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills, respectful of world cultures, and willingness to work with a diverse population.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology and software to position requirements.
Ability to use initiative, independent judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in field related to international education.
Previous experience in marketing and promotion that includes creating social media campaigns, leading marketing strategies, and event planning.
Experience working in an international education office.
Competency in a foreign language.
Experience using software systems such as Terra Dotta and SAP .
Duties & Responsibilities:
Advises students about outbound study abroad programs; manages the application, acceptance, and pre-departure process; manages registration and billing for advisees; participates in outbound orientation; advises students about visa processes; liaises with overseas partners as needed.
Manages the Student International Travel Registry; ensures students complete necessary documents and are enrolled in study abroad insurance.
Coordinates study abroad communications, including social media, website, promotions and marketing.
Coordinates events such as the Study Abroad Fair, Study Abroad 101 sessions, and other special recruiting meetings.
Represents study abroad at new student and transfer orientations, CMU recruiting events, classroom presentations, and other campus events.
Advises international students who participate in an in-bound student exchange.
Collects, evaluates, and assesses feedback from students about study abroad outreach and events.
Organizes visits from foreign institution representatives and program providers, as needed.
