Position Summary:
Assigned complex job requests that require architectural design, cost estimating, labor evaluation and coordination with other trades.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Repair, install, refinish, fabricate, and replace premium grade (wood) millwork, crown molding, cove base, ornate wood moldings, custom solid wood doors, bi-fold wood louvered doors, wooden or laminate wall and ceiling panels, cabinet surfaces such as formica or solid surface materials, refinish interior chairs, armoires, and furniture throughout the casino and resort.
- Design custom table games and complete structural repairs on them.
- Assess daily work orders and organize supplies and tools as needed.
- Analyze, mix, match, blend in and brush or spray on finishes as needed.
- Perform complex specialized furniture repair and upholstery that require fabrication or custom staining.
- Provide design layouts in CAD format to requesting departments for review and approval.
- Create CNC (computer numerical control) programs for high volume repetitive fabrication projects.
- Maintain knowledge of woodworking tools including detail tools such as specialty wood carving tools.
- Assist Carpentry Supervisor in development of project estimates and the management of the project work crew for major in-house projects
- Maintain a friendly, positive, “can do”, and professional demeanor to all guests, visitors, employees, and vendors.
- Provide knowledge and training to support the apprentice program.
- Practice SECR Hospitality Rules with every internal and external guest.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:
- Contact with requesting departments to develop designs, estimates and prototypes.
- Contact with outside contractors, engineers and vendors to evaluate repairs and develop repair solutions.
- Contact with other Facilities management regarding projects planning/scheduling and other Facilities associates that are the support team for the respective project.
- Contact with Carpenter Apprentice to provide knowledge and training to support the apprentice program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Five years of experience as a carpenter with an emphasis in progressive responsibilities in the carpentry field up to project design and coordinating the work of other carpenters.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- State of Michigan builder`s license.
- Experience in CAD design and CNC operation.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver`s License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver`s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of proper storage requirements for volatile and hazardous chemicals.
- Knowledge of a variety of carpentry equipment operation such as saws, planers, routers and assorted power tools.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety codes, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures.
- Skill in using logical reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions.

- Skill and artistic abilities to create custom designs.
- Ability to read building codes and layouts, construction drawings and blueprints.

Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer and repair equipment.
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
- Occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
- Exposure to hazardous stains, lacquers and other chemicals that require respiratory protection.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
- Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel may be required.
