The Opportunity
Our USGO Great Lakes Region team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business. We are seeking an experienced Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls & Measurement Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas measurement equipment, compressor station control systems, and other related facilities. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
What you'll do
Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor station, meter station, communication systems. and other facilities related to the pipeline system
Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters
Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand and power tools
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components, Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, ensuring compliance with codes
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use
Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment
Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas in the event of pipeline right of way maintenance or an emergency repair to maintain delivery to internal and external customers
Locate pipelines per One Call and perform valve maintenance.
Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience in a related industry
Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics
Experience with Allen Bradley controls
Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
Experience with PLCs, pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and regulators
Ability to interpret technical reference documents
This position requires candidates to
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
Work a rotating 12-hour shift (days and evenings) for a minimum of 5 months each year; remainder of the year will consist of 8-hour day shifts on the maintenance crew
Periodically cover compressor station operations as needed with potential for periodic nights weekends and holidays as needed
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
