IAV Automotive Engineering seeks Control Systems Engineer Level 3 in Novi, MI.
Job Duties: Review system requirements with the customer (internal & external). Support the definition of subsystem requirements for components, e.g., energy storage, electric motor, power electronics, charging systems. Execute drive cycle-based energy analysis using math-based models. Define and analyze powertrain architectures used in PHEV and HEV applications. Support the design and implementation of algorithms and functions based on requirements. Participate in function and SW code reviews. Create function description documentation. Support validation test plan creation. Execute software validation test plans. Review test case results. Other general tasks are: Support planning and execution of engineering activities as directed by supervisor or senior team members. Support customer meetings. Support business and strategic company development opportunities. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and build technical knowledge and ability. 30% domestic travel to various unanticipated client sites throughout the U.S. Travel for purposes of test trips, training, or meetings, possibly outside the country for up to several months. Telecommuting permitted.
Requires a Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience.
Position requires any experience with the following: developing Web-based applications to support powertrain system data analysis and decision-making; conducting vehicle testing and software calibration development, including test conditions under extreme environmental conditions (hot, cold, high altitude), analyzing vehicle data, assessing powertrain vital signs and optimizing performance by technical adjustments; leading the vehicle data collection activity through rigorous testing using tools such as INCA, AVL Puma, AVL Indicom, Can analyzer and DTS Monaco; Running vehicle and/or engine dynamometer tests to assess performance, fuel economy and emissions for gasoline and ethanol fuel powertrain systems; leading the meetings to report the data from these tests; defining test cases for vehicle hybrid powertrain systems to confirm correct functionality under market-specific regulatory requirements and/or environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, altitude); Working with emissions test cycles and emissions test facilities; Front-end technologies such as JavaScript and React, back-end development with Python and database management with SQL and non-SQL frameworks using cloud-based repositories and versioning control tools for automotive software and tools development control; Preparing and presenting results from the virtual applications, providing interpretation and key insights of the processed data for internal management and outside customers; using data collection/visualization tools such as Cosworth Pi Toolbox, Toolset, and Motec I2; vehicle dynamics, including tire, brakes, chassis, and suspension systems; and defining vehicle adjustments based on the performance demands of the test track and driver’s driving style.
