This position will support the plant EHS programs. The position will have responsibility for the implementation and oversight of the safety programs and procedures at the plant level. The position will also be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the Environmental Management System at the plant level.
Responsibilities of position:
- Support the implementation of safety related programs and procedures to achieve and maintain ISO45001 certification.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of the Environmental Management Representative for the ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
- Develop, implement and maintain a risk reduction program for hazard identification and assessment in line with corporate procedures and objectives (e.g. LOTO, HazCom, Work from Heights)
- Maintain and improve existing EHS programs and procedures.
- Develop and present all environmental and safety related training.
- Create and deliver EHS related analytical KPI reports and presentations.
- Analize incident data and develop standards to ensure prevention of injury and ill health
- Lead incident and accident investigations and prepare reports to identify root causes and develop preventive measures to use as lessons learned.
- Conduct, monitor, and follow-up on-site safety and environmental assessment surveys and audits
- Support and work with the Plant Manager, Engineering and Human Resources to ensure compliance with regulations and adherence to company expectations.
- Work in cooperation with local and regional organizations regarding permitting, planned and unplanned inspections and evaluations, and mitigate non-conformances.
- Must update and maintain permit renewals as well as record keeping and routine reporting requirements to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Must maintain the plants chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet System.
- Position coordinates waste disposal processes for controlled/hazardous, industrial and red bag medical wastes.
- Position is responsible for data entry in Corporate Data Collection Software and Systems for monthly tracking and reporting
Skill Requirements
- Strong understanding of environmental and safety regulatory compliance obligations and requirements.
- Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required to support training and operational needs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 & 14001.
- Good to very good knowledge of written and spoken English
- Proficient use of Microsoft office and other related software.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental, EHS, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a science related field.
- Or extended working experience within the EHS discipline Experience in industrial safety, safety management system development, training, safety auditing and project management.
- Experience in hazard identification and assessment and control techniques.
- Minimum 3 years of occupational health and safety or related experience.
- Knowledge and experience of working with ISO management systems and auditing (ISO 14001 & 45001).
- Experience maintaining and improving critical environmental compliance programs such as hazardous waste management, air emissions, storm water pollution prevention and industrial wastewater treatment.
- Previous chemical handling experience is a plus
Licensing or Special Certification Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- ISO14001 and ISO45001 Auditor Certifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time.
- Able to travel from base-plant to other plants within the North American region as needed.
- Walking. Standing. Bending. Pushing. Pulling. Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Must wear hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toe shoes
- Must be physically capable of wearing a respirator
Working Conditions
Works inside within an automotive component manufacturing office setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.
Noise: some above 85dcb with vibration
Frequently work alone and more than 40 hours
Occasionally lifts and carry up to 50 pounds.
Some of the work time is spent standing, walking, lifting and bending.
Travel may be required.
