ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / FITNESS & WELLNESS

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness develops, directs, and administers services that involve direct interaction with students and enhance their academic and learning experiences outside of the classroom setting. This position provides leadership and oversight for the collegiate recreation fitness program and empowers student staff to develop and foster fitness/wellness programs that promote student learning, development, and success. This position also directs and manages a comprehensive fitness/wellness program, including staff fitness training, group fitness, personal/small group training, fitness assessments/screenings, and fitness outreach that inspires engagement opportunities in a safe and accessible environment.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in health fitness, recreation, physical education, sport management, or a related field.
Two years of experience in the fitness field (graduate assistant experience included).
Certification from a nationally recognized association in group exercise and/or personal training.
Certified in First Aid and CPR .
Experience developing and implementing fitness programs, policies, and procedures.
Experience with staff training and development.
Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff, work associates, and program participants.
Ability to conduct program assessment.
Ability to lift 50lbs.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in health fitness, recreation, physical education, sport management, or a related field.
Experience supervising fitness staff, programming fitness activities, and developing campus wide fitness initiatives.
Certified as a CPR /First Aid Instructor.
Available to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides overall leadership and direction for the collegiate recreation fitness program that includes group fitness, personal training, fitness assessments, and fitness special events.
Collaborates with campus partners on University wellness initiatives. oversees the daily operation of fitness facility spaces, including managing fitness personnel, recommending fitness equipment purchases, and overall fitness center management.
Supervises the coordinator fitness and wellness facilities for residence life which includes the management and programming of fitness spaces within the residence halls.
Develops, coordinates, and executes staff fitness training opportunities for group fitness instructors, personal trainers, fitness staff, program coordinators, and Graduate Assistants with a focus on student development, training, and learning.
Serves as the fitness liaison to campus partners including but not limited to Student Health Services, the Counseling Center, and Residence Life to develop collaborative programs that support student success.
Leads the assessment and evaluation efforts for the fitness program each semester, identifying participation levels, program participant interests, along with learning and development objectives.
Develops, recommendations, and implements new classes, programs, and activities.
Organizes and leads instructional courses as assigned.
Serves as an evening and weekend facility manager as assigned.
Serves as a substitute for instructors as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
